Huntsville Hospital Health System Online Orientation

Your health and safety are our top priorities. If you've experienced any flu-like symptoms (chills, fever over 100.4F, cough, etc...) in the past 14 days, email onboarders@hhsys.org to reschedule your orientation.

General Orientation

2025 Orientation Dates: Jan. 6, 13 & 20; Feb. 3, 17; March 3, 17 & 31; April 14 & 28; May 12 & 27; June 9, 16 & 23; July 7 & 21; Aug. 4, 18 & 25; Sept. 15 & 29; Oct. 13 & 27; Nov. 10 & 17; Dec. 8 & 15

It is our policy that all new employees must complete New Employee Orientation prior to starting their new position. New Employee Orientation has several components:

  1. Online Orientation
  2. Class Requirement
  3. Additional Information 
  4. On-Campus Orientation 

Note: Attendance at the on-campus orientation on Monday will be compensated with four hours of pay.


Online Orientation

General orientation has two components: In-person attendance (start date) and completion of online modules due within two weeks of the date of hire. Courses will be available on the first day in the Learning Management System.

Your manager or educator will guide you on how to log in and when to complete these online modules. Online employee training has to be completed on campus during work hours. If you are unable to complete these modules in your department or need help, you can contact Huntsville Hospital Corporate University at (256) 265-8025 to reserve computer access.

In addition, new employees can go to Corporate University (inside the Dowdle Center) Monday - Friday, between 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. to get a hard copy of the documents posted if preferred.


Class Requirement

Our hospital embraces the values of High Reliability Organization (HRO) which promotes patient safety and efficient health care delivery. Every employee is required to attend “HRO Putting Patient Safety to Work” and "Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)."

New employees that are:

  • Attending Clinical Orientation
    Two foundational courses are provided on the Tuesday of your second week of work, which are required for all employees. You will return to the training room from the first day of hire on Tuesday morning from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. for a class titled, HRO Putting Patient Safety to Work. Please plan to bring a sack lunch. There are selective items on site in the vending area for those who need a lunch. After lunch, in the same classroom space you will attend a second class, Management of Aggressive Behavior, which will be from Noon – 3:30 p.m. Wear comfortable clothing.

  • Not Attending Clinical Orientation

Class Time: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and Noon - 3:30 p.m.

For AHA certification holders, you have 30 days to submit your AHA Healthcare Provider BLS card (HCP-BLS), or successfully complete a course. In other critical care areas, you may be required to also carry current certification in ACLS and/or PALS; which has a longer window to complete. If you are required to have ACLS or PALS and do not have that certification currently check with your educator during your department’s orientation.

MADISON HOSPITAL ORIENTATION

Parking
You will park in the overflow lot in front of the visitor parking area; only in the event that this lot is full, you are to park in the employee lot at the back of Madison Hospital (parking areas circled in RED). DO NOT PARK IN VISITOR PARKING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HOSPITAL OR IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT PARKING. Click here for a Madison Hospital campus map. 

Orientation Attendance
You will report to the first-floor classroom unless previously instructed otherwise. 

During the Monday, on-campus orientation, you will have your badge made, tour the Madison facility, and complete other general requirements. Upon completion of your general orientation tasks, you will be eligible to report to work on your Madison Hospital unit. Please contact your manager for your schedule.

For clinical employees only, you will be contacted by your clinical educator for a Tuesday schedule.

ALL OTHER HUNTSVILLE HOSPITAL FACILITIES ORIENTATION

Dress Code
Dress code for attending orientation is business casual or scrubs (no jeans). Click the location or group below for dress code policy and uniform details.

Parking
Refer to the maps by clicking here: HH Main or Cochran campus.  For the next day, please contact your manager to find out your parking assignment. Review the employee parking assignment information. 

Orientation Attendance
Your on-campus orientation schedule will be emailed to you on the Thursday prior to orientation on Monday.

Clinical employees only

  • Any new employee scheduled for a clinical orientation will start clinical orientation right after completion of the on-campus Monday general orientation. They will stay on the Cochran campus until 4:30 p.m. However, Friday's orientation will be on the Huntsville Hospital main campus. More information will be given about training for the rest of the week.
