HH Fever & Flu Clinic to close April 28
With Covid-19 hospitalizations down dramatically and the national public health emergency expiring in early May, Huntsville Hospital is shifting to a new phase of pandemic response.
The HH Fever & Flu Clinic on Governors Drive, which opened in March 2020 as a temporary Covid testing site, is winding down operations and will close its doors on Friday, April 28.
“The Fever & Flu Clinic staff are true heroes,” said Tracy Doughty, Huntsville Hospital President and Chief Operating Officer. “When the virus first reached Alabama, they volunteered to put themselves in harm’s way to help keep the community safe. We are forever grateful for their service and excited that they can now return to caring for Huntsville Hospital Health System patients in other ways.”
Over the past three years, more than 57,000 people have visited the Fever & Flu Clinic to be tested for Covid. At times, the line wrapped around the building at 120 Governors Drive.
As scientific understanding of the virus improved and therapies were developed, the clinic evolved from purely a testing site. In recent months, more than 4,200 Covid patients at high risk for hospitalization have come to the clinic for IV infusions or Paxlovid, an oral antiviral pill. And after the John Hunt Park Community Vaccination Clinic closed in May 2022, the Fever & Flu Clinic also became the hospital’s primary Covid vaccination site.
“The Fever & Flu Clinic has served the community well for three years, but there are now many other Covid testing, vaccination and outpatient treatment resources available in the Huntsville area,” said Doughty. “Anyone needing those services should contact their primary care physician.”
All Fever & Flu Clinic staff members will be transferred to other jobs within Huntsville Hospital Health System.
